Los brazos son muchas veces víctimas de la pérdida de peso o de la edad. La intervención deja una cicatriz a lo largo de la parte interior el brazo. Siempre se tiene cuidado que la cicatriz no pase abajo hacia la zona del codo, y en la parte superior forma una V, para corregir los ángulos anterior y posterior de la axila, protegiendo la zona con vellos.
Las cicatrices son casi siempre satisfactoriamente discretas y no se pueden ver en el movimiento de los brazos. Se pueden ver solo si se colocan encima de la cabeza. Se debe llevar ropa elástica con lazos especiales para los brazos para facilitar la cicatrización.
La intervención es fácil y el período postoperatorio es tranquilo. El paciente puede volver a su actividad habitual al día siguiente. La intervención dura alrededor de una hora y se realiza bajo anestesia general. Unos analgésicos moderados son suficientes inmediatamente después de la intervención, se prescriben antibióticos para cuatro días. El vendaje se debe cambiar al segundo día tras la intervención y al cuarto ya se puede tomar una ducha. Los hilos de las suturas se quitan al séptimo día. Las complicaciones son mínimas y raras veces se abre la herida que después cicatriza sola.
