Les patients quittent l’hôpital, peu de temps après cette opération, avec un pansement élastique autour de la tête. Ils suivent un traitement avec antibiotiques et analgésiques (Depon/ingrédient actif: paracétamol/, Lonarid/ingrédient actif: l'acétaminophène /, mais pas d'aspirine) en cas de faibles douleurs possibles. Une douleur intense n’a pas lieu d’être à moins d’être l’effet d’un bandage trop serré, qui, si tel était le cas, devrait être desserré.
Le premier changement du pansement se fait quatre jours après l'opération et le patient peut désormais se laver la tête. Après ces quatre jours les pansements ne sont plus nécessaires, mais il est recommandé, pendant les deux semaines suivantes, de mettre une bande élastique autour de la tête, couvrant les oreilles, lors du coucher. Habituellement, il n’y a pas besoin de retirer les points de suture et la cicatrice possible se trouvera cachée derrière l'oreille. Il est important toutefois de préserver le caractère naturel de toutes les parties du pavillon et du lobe / hélix, anti-hélix, pavillon, tragus, anti-tragus/. Le pavillon et le lobe ne devraient pas être collés au crâne et l’anti-hélix doit être préservé de toute blessure due à un pli accidentel du cartilage lors de l’opération.
L’otoplastie peut être effectuée, dès l’âge de 9 ans, quand le développement de l'oreille en tant qu’organe est terminé.
